This is a short (2 miles each way) sometimes steep and usually muddy in the early spring and late fall trail that only gains 880 feet. You can hike either the only Railroad grade trail which is wide, flat and twice as long as the forested, and much nicer trail. The forested trail follows near the Wallace River for 1.25 miles the drops to a wooden bridge overlooking the North Fork of the Wallace River. The next 3/4 mile is steep and climbs to the shelter for a great view of the falls. If you continue a 1/2 mile farther to the middle viewpoint you can actually feel the power of the falls and forget about talking to each other. The roar of the falls is really load. For tose still with energy, a 1/2 mile farther puts you on the North Fork Bridge and trails end at the Valley Overlook.
Directions: U.S. 2 east to Gold Bar, left at the sign for Wallace Falls Stat Park and follow the signs to the park headquarters and trailhead.
