Summit Lake
---

This is a beautiful alpine lake that is not at the summit of any mountain! Fantastic views of Mt. Rainier and some of the largest flower fields you will ever see. This is a five mile round trip hike and only gains about 1,200' to a high point of 5,400'. If you are going to stay overnight, the best sites are on the east side where the trail meets the lake. It is well worth following the trail around the lake and then scrambling up to the hilside to the top of the 5,737' hill where you can look down on Coplay, Coundlu, Lily and Cedar Lakes as well as a wicked view of Mt. Rainier

Directions: Head S.W. to Buckley, south to Hwy 165 and follow signs to the entrance of Mt. Rainier National Park. Just before the entrance, turn left and cross the Carbon River and continue about 12 miles, keeping left at the junctions to the roads end and the trailhead.
