This hike is up to a lookout where the cabin sits on a rock (mountain top) that looks from the side like the front of a ship. The views of Mt. Rainier and the Sawtooth range are spectacular and you can see from the Columbia Crest down to the Nisqually entrance. Also great views of Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens. 3 Miles round trip with an elevation gain of 1,400'. If you can ever pull your eyes away from the wonderful view, you have to look down at Cora Lake which is 1,500' straight down from the viewpoint. Wicked as it gets!

Directions: Take Hwy 706 east from Ashford about 4 miles then turn right on Kernahan road toward Big Creek Campground-Packwood. Drive across the Nisqually River and continue 1.5 miles to a junction and go right to Towhead Gap and the trailhead.
